Most borehole water is acidic and should be treated to raise the pH.
While it’s not the only factor, low pH is a major contributing factor to corrosion in pipes and should be kept at over 6.8 as a minimum, and preferably above 7.2.

Calcite is used to raise the pH of naturally acidic groundwater and rainwater, to prevent corrosion of copper pipes, pumps and fittings.
By adding calcium, it also stabilises the water to prevent leaching of cement from swimming pool walls and paving.
